Heliconian early prototype

This is the first post about the development progress of my upcoming mobile(and maybe PC) game:

Heliconian – Starship Crew Control

It’s a fast paced spaceship crew management and survival game for mobile phones. The idea is to create a game for mobile first and then see if it’s a good fit for other platforms as well. My goal is to create a game that is fast, streamlined, and simple, but still full of tough and interesting decisions.

The game was born from the basic idea to create a byte sized spaceship crew exploration / survival experience for mobile devices. The game play focus will be crew management. Players will move crew members aboard a spaceship called Heliconian. Crew members are moved from room to room in order to perform various tasks to keep everyone alive. I want to keep it streamlined and accessible for everyone. The learning curve should be as gentle as possible. Play sessions should be short (5-20 min.) but still offer the feeling of an epic space adventure. It’s a challenging goal, so let’s see how it goes;)

The biggest inspirations for this game have been the excellent solo board game Deep Space D-6, even more awesome co-op multiplayer board game Dead of Winter, and the TV show The Expanse.

I will be developing the game in Unity. In the picture you see an early prototype after experimenting with the game idea for a week or two. Constant stream of enemies popup at the top and the crew members(colorful dots) can move from room to room to repair the broken hull. The crew members can also get wounded and die if they stay in the same room where an enemy missile hits.

Thanks for reading! If you cool ideas for this, please don’t hesitate to share in the comments!
